Bread and Butter

Bread and Butter is a conceptual design for a local organic farm. The design includes both public and private spaces, helping the farm to expand its presence in the public realm while also providing living spaces for farm workers.

The public facing elements of the design expand and enrich the farm “campus”. These include an addition to a beloved central barn and supergraphic text to invite the public in and help with wayfinding within the farm. The farmer housing units are raised buildings focused on sustainability and integration with the landscape. Haybale walls, prefabricated construction elements, rain barrels, and a communal energy system are some of the key elements of the houses. The houses are sited to take advantage of open southern exposures and to allow farm animals to graze throughout the site.
