Our Story
Sidehill Design Studio was founded on the idea that buildings can be beautiful, sustainable, and fun. Inspired by the barns that define the Vermont landscape, we create unique buildings with a sense of place and beauty that will stand the test of time.
Sidehill Design was launched by architect Jeff McBride in 2021. Since then, we have taken on projects spanning the state of Vermont, and been recognized for design excellence awards by the American Institute of Architects Vermont chapter. Our portfolio includes both private residence and community projects, a balance which allows us contribute to the landscape of our community from multiple perspectives.
We believe the buildings in which we live, work, and play help to shape how we live our lives. Our custom designs are tailored to each individual client and building site, creating buildings that are deeply rooted in a sense of place, minimize their environmental footprint, and reflect the needs and personalities individuals and communities who inhabit them.
Wampahoofus Project
Sidehill Design Studio has built a tradition around our annual holiday card of supporting local artists and paying homage to our whimsical namesake, the mythical Sidehill Hoofer (aka Sidehill Dodger, Sidehill Looper, Sidehill Gouger, or, as we prefer in Vermont, the Wampahoofus). It’s a little quirky and perhaps a little bit silly, but so are we, and we love it. Each year we find a local designer to create their interpretation of the Wampahoofus for our holiday card.
